Dziennik Polski – Detroit Newspaper Database Search App

Database Search App

The above application is a One-Step Search App built using Steve Morse’s One-Step Website.
You can find Birth, Marriage, Death, and Polish Consular events and their newspaper publish dates which should be close to the vital record dates. There a few divorce announcements too!
On birth events, they do not put in the baby name. The name is most often the mother, but there were stretches where they posted the father’s name for the birth announcement.
The consular records can lead to a small paragraph about the person and why the Polish Consulate is seeking that person — which leads to the birth village often and sometimes residences or familial relationships.

  1. I found a record in here for my grandparents wedding. What can I do with the information? Is there a way to get a copy of the article or announcement?

    • Hi Joe! Thank you for reading and writing too! First, let me plug my Dziennik Polski web page:

This has library & archives across the USA that have the microfilm. If you live in MI, then the following will be of use to you:

The Michigan State Archives & Library 702 W. Kalamazoo St, Lansing, MI 48915 Phone: (517) 373-3559. [Has 1904-1941]
The Detroit Public Library(Burton Collection) Main Branch- 5201 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48202 Phone: (313) 833-1000. [Has 1904-..]
Polonica Americana Research Institute (PARI), 3535 Indian Trail, Orchard Lake, MI 48324 – [1904-1920 microfilm, 1930’s-? bundles]

Use the newspaper date to figure which microfilm to load and view.

If you were looking for a death record be sure to look for a death announcement and a possible funeral card. The funeral cards are so very loaded with info, so I hope you are lucky in that find.
