Donna,
I am glad my musing inspired you. It is odd where we get our inspirations from (especially in genealogy).

Do you know what else I have stumbled upon: High School graduations / class pictures. I am originally from Michigan and there was a Polish newspaper the Dziennik Polski (Detroit) and I found the most amazing class pictures from Catholic high schools. These were in the 1920's and 1930's before newspapers had better things to do.

My thoughts are, the reason today's newspapers have less readership is that they have gotten away from the types of events that connected communities -- publishing class pictures (I bet families purchased the newspaper just for that). When I was growing up they used to say, "If you're lucky, you get into the newspaper 3 times during your life: at birth, when you marry, and when you die. If your unlucky, then a few more times."

What a good idea!! I never thought to look at newspapers from the time of my family's immigration. Newspapers have been used for obituaries and for a few hard and fast facts, but I never thought about looking to see if there were immigration-related information there. Thanks for the tip.
